The Rooster Band, a group located in Athens, Georgia, has been creating music in the city for the last two years. Originally conceived as the group named Contraband Workshop, the four members all are members of the University of Georgia fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, which is where they all met.
They became a group because of their love of music and their instruments, which naturally placed them in the right parts to make a music group. As seniors at UGA, they know that decisions need to be made as to whether to continue Rooster Band or not. But, for bassist Will Kendrick-Holmes, his plan to continue a music career come in the form of creating his first album.
“I don’t plan on stopping this ever. This whole album I’m doing is something just for me. It is something fun that I really care about,” Holmes said.
Performing during the Covid pandemic was a struggle for the group, yet they still were able to bring entertainment to their fans. The four members mentioned how one of their favorite performances during 2020 was at 1785, a popular bar in Athens.
“So we played an event and I mean, we packed that and it was like our third show,” said John Knox, lead guitarist of Rooster Band. “And there were probably 600, 700 people there.”
Although the future of Rooster Band is still in the air with graduation approaching, fans of the group can look forward to hearing Will Kendrick-Holmes’ debut solo album this Friday at the Silver Dollar Bar at 9 p.m.
